If you are interested in doing voice-overs and you have never done any voice-overs before, it is acceptable to put a recording together of material that other actors have read. The recording should be done in a professional recording studio or your equipment if you can have a good quality sound on your Voice-over reel . Your best material should be first. The entire Reel should be no longer than 3 or 4 minutes. Try covering as many genres as you can ads/animation/book narration/ games, etc. 

If you have your own recording equipment then you can start thinking of making your profile in one or more of the voice-over work platform. This way you cak take your career in your hands. \
